I was a junior, he was a sophomore in high school. I was dressed like a clown, he was a trumpet player in the orchestra pit. It was an annual high school theater production, known as Valley Vaudeville, and my role was to act as the comedic transition between each skit. His was to make sound effects for me and my other clown partner since we were not allowed to speak as clowns. During one of our acts, I was supposed to jump off the stage, into the pit, and onto this mat as part of my stunt act. I ended up missing the mat and jumping onto his lap.

He smiled and said, “Um, Hi. Are you ok?” I said, “Yes, sorry” and ran back on stage. I didn’t see him again after that. The summer before my senior year (his junior), my good friend, Eddie, came by my house to show off his “new” car. (I say new because we were 17 and happy to have any type of car, even if it looked like a bucket). Eddie brought his two friends as well. Little did I know that Eddie was good friends with my trumpet player. Everyone gave us 3 months since I was in Honors, and he mostly in detention. We dated all of my senior year until I moved to go to the Bay to go to UC Berkeley and ended up losing touch of my high school sweetheart. 13 years later, he found me on Facebook (even though I was anti-anything that can find me) and fell in love with each other once again. We say we went from “puppy love” to “bull dog love.” (He’s a Marine, I’m still a clown…and we make each other laugh).

Vote for us! We are spending our first Valentines together after all these years! He still thinks I’m going to buy him McDonalds for dinner since that is what I “made” for him during our first first Valentines Day in high school. :)
