We met at Bally’s Manhattan Beach. In Spin Class. 5:30am. I sat next to Alan in spin class while he was speaking to somebody else about food - low fat apple cake, to be specific and I had to know more. And so we had our first conversation. We saw each other often in the mornings at the gym. I thought he walked so tall and proud while working towards his fitness goals and I knew we had at least one thing in common, you know? We had a lot of interesting experiences before we had our first date. Most memorable was the day after we had a discussion about salt and how I only use regular table salt (doesn’t everybody?!).

Apparently that is the wrong answer to a chef and so the next day he arrived at the gym with a 10 pound care package of salts ranging from kosher to grey to sea salt and fleur de sel. Random! My favorite though is when he used his all access pass to LAX to find me before I took a cruise with a friend, full chef uniform, to hand me a rose and see me off. I really thought this guy was out of his mind. But I boarded the plane, rose in hand and sat next to a very sweet, very wise old woman who inspired me to give Alan a chance. I haven’t looked back since! Upon my return, we had our first date at Yamashiro in the Hollywood Hills. Gorgeous view and great conversation, we knew something special would happen.
Alan is a terrific addition to my family. It’s as if I was put on this earth to bring him to us. He made me the happiest woman in the world when he proposed. We were married in October 2009 and still enjoy being newlyweds!
Our story is a great one with each chapter finding love, laughter, warmth and a devotion to each other that we are both grateful to have.
