This may possibly be the only “How we first met” story written by the guy, so it probably won’t be very sweet.

We were both 21 and out at the bars. I was with the guys and Kim was out with one of her girlfriends. The guys were ready to move on to the next bar and on our way out some drunk idiots get in a shoving match and spill beer on these two girls (Kim and her friend).

My buddies start chatting the girls up and I’m not paying attention. (Kim tells me now that our group and her group were throwing looks back and forth at each other all night, but it’s news to me.)

After the guys get done hitting on these girls I’m informed that they will be accompanying us to our next stop… The Saddle Rack. I’m annoyed. Long story short, Kim is into one of my buddies, one of my other buddies kisses her on the dance floor and on the drive to drop her off at her dorm she’s sitting in my lap in the truck and it dawns on me that, “Hey! There’s a girl in my lap! Maybe I should talk to her!”

We went out for a few months and things were going great, but then she let me know that she wants me to meet her parents and, as any immature 21 year old guy would do, I freak out. I broke up with her. At least I thought I did. She thought I was just having a bad day.

For some reason we keep in touch over the years by writing letters to each other… actual letters on paper with stamps! I always look forward to these letters and they always show up when I’m feeling down. Deep down inside I always feel like there was something there but never act on it.

We start talking to each other again after TWELVE years and we had our second first date. One thing led to another and we got married in August of 2009! I’ll always be grateful for the best second chance of my life.

Oh yeah, my buddy that was trying to kiss Kim on the dance floor over 15 years ago? He was the guy that married us! Thanks Mike!
